Canal Park was created as a memorial to Funairima. Funairima was a small bay used exclusively by the former Nihon Yusen Company Otaru Branch. The building is designated as a nationally important cultural asset for loading and unloading goods directly from barges in the canal of the surrounding warehouses.
This park recalls the original condition of the canal and its surroundings during this period.
