The fishing village of Mui Ne boasts a small harbor filled with countless colorful, round, small coastal fishing boats, a distinctive symbol of Vietnamese coastal culture. These round Vietnamese fishing boats, known as Thuyen Thung or basket boats, are traditionally woven from bamboo and sealed with coconut fibers and resin. They originated during the colonial era as a way to avoid boat taxes.
