The name remained to recall the initial intentions that wanted to create a canal for navigation from Milan to the Po. The project in fact envisaged connecting Milan, in the place that is still called Porto di Mare, to Cremona and from there continuing navigation until reaching the Po river creating a river connection to the Adriatic Sea. Unfortunately the project stopped and restarted several times obtaining as a result the current navigable connection from Pizzighettone and Cremona.

In the first stretch the foliage of the plants is very low and it is impossible to avoid it, making the ride less fluid.
