The fountain sculptures (fish on stone balls) are also often called "potato with herring" by the people of Mainz 😂
Unfortunately, the fountain is often without water, especially in winter.

Vandring

The Fish Gate Fountain is located on the axis between the banks of the Rhine and the east choir of the cathedral. Fish jump happily over stone balls. The water bubbles out of many openings and splashes in an arched shape into the fountain basin. On the edge of the fountain you often see passers-by taking a short break, not just on summer days.
