The Church of Agios Athanasios in Chalandritsa, built in 1100, is a significant Byzantine monument.
It is considered to be in excellent condition, although more recent additions have been made over time.
A comprehensive renovation took place in 2017.
The sanctuary houses a wooden icon of Saint Athanasios, which bears traces of Turkish shelling from 1772.
On the iconostasis is a cross with two snakes, symbolizing death and sin.
