Alexander II, Emperor of Russia, met in Bad Ems for a historic meeting that often serves as an example of the convivial diplomatic atmosphere of the time. The Tsar met here with German princes and other guests, enjoyed the spa treatments and the waves of the Rhine, as well as the sophisticated flair of the spa town. Court etiquette was reflected in the meals, conversations, and every ceremony. In short, Bad Ems offered a charming setting for international meetings in the 19th century.
