The National Museum in Warsaw (MNW) is one of the largest museums in Poland, founded in 1862. It gathers collections of ancient art (Egyptian, Greek, Roman), Polish painting from the 13th century and foreign painting, including Italian, French, Dutch, German and Russian. It also contains numismatics and artistic crafts. The museum building was built in 1927-1938 according to the designs of Tadeusz Tołwiński and Antoni Dygat. During World War II, the museum lost a large part of its collection. In 1945, it was nationalized.
