The Degučiai Monument to the Independence of Lithuania was erected in a new place in front of the Degučiai School. The current Degučiai Monument to the Independence of Lithuania is not authentic. The first version of the monument was slightly different and the monument stood near the current St. Anthony of Padua Chapel, 20 m north of the Utena-Zarasų highway in the square, on the boulevard. A black marble slab with the carved inscription “THROUGH AUKAS / AND /UNIORITY / FREEDOM. RECOVERED / LIVING / FOREVER / LITHUANIA / DEGUČIAI 1930” is attached to the monument.

In 1935, the old monument was consecrated.
In 1958, supporters of Stalinist politics demolished the monument, and only in 1990 was a new concrete monument rebuilt according to the design of the artist Alfons Šeduikys (unveiled on July 28, 1990).
The architect of the monument is Violeta Bulikaitė.
The monument was rebuilt by local craftsmen - five men of Russian nationality.
