St. Alban Vorstadt, affectionately known as "Dalbe" in the local Basel dialect, is a historic and picturesque district nestled in Grossbasel, Switzerland. Situated on the southeastern edge of the city along the banks of the Rhine River, this charming settlement extends roughly from Aeschenplatz to the iconic St. Alban-Tor. At an elevation of 275 metres, it is renowned as one of Basel's best-preserved medieval suburbs, characterized by its tranquil, village-like atmosphere within the bustling city.

The St. Alban Vorstadt is one of my favorite old town districts in Basel. It is quiet, green, well-kept and offers a wonderful way to get to the banks of the Rhine.

If you cycle through the Dalbe (that's what the district is called in Basel German), you can admire many old houses at a leisurely pace, which used to be home to the so-called Daig, i.e. the wealthy people of Basel.
