In Mahres itself the asphalt is not in good condition, the rest of the route is mostly good and two lanes. The Tunisians don't keep much distance, so it's better not to drive too far to the right if you can't drive on the hard shoulder. The traffic is not that heavy, I had one or more vehicles overtaking me every 2-60 seconds on a Thursday afternoon.
