This church, built in Tournai blue stone, is one of the finest examples of Scheldt Gothic.
Unique is the so-called crossing tower, which is not above the entrance, but above the intersection of main and side aisles. It acts as a kind of natural lantern, because the light enters the transept through the tower.

The Nikolauskirche, dedicated to the patron saint of seafarers, is located on the Korenmarkt. It is considered one of the finest examples of Scheldt Gothic. This is the Flemish variant, where you see the church tower above the s.g. crossing instead of on the west side of the church. Also worth seeing is the organ by Cavaille Coll, which is often used for concerts.
