The Molinete Tower, or Tower of the Catholic Monarchs, stands on a small hill in the middle of the town.
It is a round watchtower built on a small hill near the Vélez Castle. The Molinete Tower was built on the orders of the Catholic Monarchs, who approved it in 1490 as suitable for monitoring the coast.
From its vantage point, you could observe the coast and take protective measures for the area and the town of Mazarrón against the frequent attacks by Barbary pirates.
