The creation of the Bayano dam and rising lake waters forced the community here to settle on a hill that now is just an island in the lake, threatened occasionally by rising lake water levels after long rains. The Interamerican highway here crosses the lake, connecting the island with two bridges to the lake shore on either side.
The community is one of 12 in the Guna de Madungandí comarca indígena (indigenous territory) and corregimiento in Chepo District, Panamá Province, with a population of 4,271 as of 2010. There are some stores and boating opportunities.
