The National Memorial Chorten, a Tibetan-style stupa, was built in 1974 in memory of His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928-72), who died in Nairobi, Kenya. The king's ashes were interred at the Kurjey Lhakhang in Bumthang, central Bhutan.
