The Johannisthal waterworks is a 35 hectare nature reserve on Königsheideweg in Berlin's Johannisthal district. On the area of today's nature reserve, a waterworks with two lifting lines was put into operation in 1901, which extracted water from the Spree, the Dahme, the Britzer connecting canal and the Teltow canal with the help of a total of 26 wells. In 2001 the funding was discontinued. However, drinking water production is to be resumed. The current function of the Johannisthal waterworks is limited to ensuring the remediation of contaminated sites and compliance with an environmentally and settlement-compatible groundwater level.
