The church was built in the second half of the 13th century. In the 16th century, a tower, sacristy, and porch were added. Around 1508, the flat ceiling over the nave and the barrel vault over the chancel were replaced with brick vaults. Most of the window openings were probably enlarged and the facades were plastered at the same time. In 1905, the church underwent a Gothic revival, which included the addition of polychrome paintings to the vaults. The church is surrounded by a 16th-century stone wall, with a gatehouse located on the south side.
