One of the oldest and best universities in Italy is located in Pavia. The inner courtyards of the university and the library can be visited. In 1361 Galeazzo II Visconti founded the still famous University of Pavia. The origins of the teaching go back to the year 825 on the ruler Lotario. Even today, the Università degli Studi di Pavia is one of the most popular universities in Italy. In the courtyards you can find statues of famous scholars, including those of the Como-born physicist Alessandro Volta.

The university is housed in an 18th century neoclassical palace. The building has as its starting point the beautiful courtyards with arcades, which lead to the various departments.
