It is definitely worth stopping here to visit the interesting memorial at Point Alpha. It is open daily from April to October from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adults pay 6 euros admission.

The elite "Ironhorse" unit was stationed there until the US troops withdrew. The base was in the center of the NATO defense line "Fulda Gap", where an invasion by the Warsaw Pact was feared in an emergency.
