The history of the Evangelical Lutheran pilgrimage church and fortified church of St. Marien zum Gesee as a place of worship and burial dates back to the pre-Christian Slavic period. A Marian pilgrimage has existed since the 11th century and continued into this century after the introduction of the Reformation (1528). However, the old image of the Virgin Mary was kidnapped by Napoleonic troops in 1806. The Marian frescoes from the Gothic period were uncovered again during restoration work. The church path with sandstone slabs up to the church is the historical pilgrimage path that ascends from the town center.

Vandring

A beautiful fortified church with a pretty cemetery. Especially photogenic in the evenings. Circular hiking trail 2 leads through the cemetery. There are no signs coming from above, but the cemetery regulations at the church itself state that dogs are not allowed.
