Unlike in most villages in the Uckermark, there was no medieval fieldstone church here. The residents went to church in Vierraden. Due to the arduous journey to Vierraden, the villagers wanted their own church. Donations were collected from residents and parishes to build a church. The church in Hohenfelde was built as a small brick building in 1900/1901.

By the end of the 19th century, the residents of Hohenfelden had to cover the four kilometers to the Vierradener Kirche even in the coldest winter. In 1901 the Hohenfeld village church was finally inaugurated after the growing population made it clear that they wanted their own church. The pastor at that time actively appealed for donations from all over the country and so a small church made of yellow brick could be built.
