Humeima is now an archaeological site and was once an important trading city of the Nabataeans and later a Roman military camp. There is a visitor center, but it has no water and virtually no other services. If necessary, the caretaker can call you a cab. There is a Bedouin camp right next door where you can spend the night for a fee. Be sure to stay away from the military area to the west of here.
