The end of the Second World War also marked the end of the Bad Zwischenahn air base. The airfield was blown up by the occupying forces, as were two of the three runways. The rubble was used, among other things, for road construction. Only the third runway, which runs parallel to Lake Zwischenahn, and a hangar remained and were used as a makeshift airfield by the Canadian Air Force until 1946.
