This mountain lake, which is around 100 m deep and has an area of 10 square kilometres, is located in the southern part of the Reykjanesskagi peninsula in the Krýsuvík volcanic system. Its water shines in a rich shade of blue and stands in direct contrast to the rugged volcanic landscape that surrounds the basin. The deposits of black lava that are still visible today create a breathtaking backdrop and remind us of the powerful forces of nature that were once at work here. The bizarre formations in particular are a real treasure trove for geologists and photographers.
