Because the municipality of Ederwecht in the former Grand Duchy of Oldenburg was ignored when the railways were built, a narrow-gauge railway between the port on the Küstenkanal and Bad Zwischenahn was approved by the Ederwecht municipal council in 1910 and completed in 1912.
The always weak passenger traffic ended in May 1950, and freight traffic was stopped in September 1991.
The tracks were dismantled and the beautiful narrow-gauge railway hiking trail (and of course cycle path) was built in their place.
