The Seilerturm, part of the city fortifications from the 15th century, served as a prison for a long time. Like all towers in the Renningen suburb, it is a shell tower whose masonry is open to the city side. The opening to the city was a conscious architectural decision. This construction was intended to ensure that the tower could not be used as a bulwark against the city in the event of a conquest. The Renningen suburb towers, including the Seilerturm, thus contributed to the city's defense strategy.

The Seilerturm from the 15th century was a prison for many years. It is a shell tower, the masonry of which is open on the city-facing side.
This construction prevents the tower from being used as a fortress against the city if it falls into the hands of the enemy.
