Somewhat hidden down a small alley is St. John’s Gospel Church, built in 1915.
It replaced a building used as a hospital and established by Dr Gordon Thompson and a group of missionaries in 1913.
In 1948 the small church was replaced with this large building. Services were discontinued in the Cultural Revolution from 1962. The church was re-purposed for other functions and only returned offering Christian services in 1986. In the early 2000s it underwent construction and decoration work, and was re-opened again in 2006.
