The Witte Molen in the Gladiolenstraat towers above the Sint-Niklaas Priesteragiewijk. The octagonal brick ground sailor is emblematic of the period before the industrial revolution in Sint-Niklaas. From the 17th to the 18th century it held a monopoly position as an energy supplier. Initially it was used as a corn mill, later also as a percussion mill for pressing oil from rapeseed and rapeseed. After an autumn storm in 1983, the mill was extensively restored. Today it is operational again and is started up by volunteer millers every two weeks on Sundays.
