The work, begun on April 24, 1794, is based on a previous temple, the church of Santamaría, as it is named in the baptism records of the church in 1626. This first church is of uncertain origins, although the current tower, a vestige of the previous one and which was next to the original church that was not incorporated as it is today, it shows us a Mozarabic style typical of the 12th century.

This temple is of Renaissance order although its tower is Mudejar and was restored on several occasions, the first of which was in the 18th century.
