It was founded in 1490 by the Maszewska Weiher family. It was built of stone and brick on the site of an older wooden chapel, then dedicated to Saint Catherine, mentioned in sources already in 1303. The chapel functioned as a hospital temple, combined with an almshouse, in whose place a new hospital facility was built in 1735. The hospital was rebuilt many times, and in 1840 it was built from scratch. During World War II, the hospital building was destroyed and was never rebuilt. In the years 1981-1983, the chapel was rebuilt to serve as an auxiliary church.
