Already mentioned in the 13th century, the fortified house, which was equipped with a moat and drawbridge, experienced a turbulent and eventful history for many centuries, marked by destruction, including by the Turks, and repeated disputes with the subjects. Duke Karl Ludwig of Lucca-Parma from the House of Bourbon-Parma gave the castle its current appearance in the middle of the 19th century.

Today, the castle, outbuildings and park are presented in new splendour and are available to interested customers for various types of events.
