The Altenwörth power plant is equipped with a fish pass to ensure the ecological continuity of the Danube. It also plays an important role in flood protection, as the weir can intervene to regulate the water. It also has a pedestrian and cyclist bridge that allows people to cross the Danube safely. During the crossing, you have an impressive view of the Danube and the surrounding landscape. The Altenwörth power plant is a Danube run-of-river power plant in the Altenwörth cadastral community of Kirchberg am Wagram in Lower Austria, around 20 kilometers below Krems. The most powerful Austrian Danube power plant was built between 1973 and 1976 and belongs to the Lower Danube plant group.
