The cap windmill in the town centre of Laer, Steinfurt district (NRW), replaced a dilapidated post mill in 1873 on the Schulzenhof Welling, which was first documented in 1248 and at that time still belonged to the Lords of Ahaus.

Laer lies in the heart of the Münsterland region and has retained its harmonious village character. The Ewaldibach stream babbles through the tranquil village, feeding the centrally located village pond. Here also stands the restored cap mill, now once again sporting its (occasionally rotating) sails.
This Dutch cap mill, dating from 1876, is a true gem. Originally built on the foundations of a post mill, it is a defining feature of Laer's landscape. The mill is privately owned.

🏛️ The Old Cap Mill in Laer (also known as the "Welling Windmill" or "Windmill by the Town Hall Pond") is a prominent landmark of the municipality in the Steinfurt district.
It is a Dutch-style cap mill, built in 1876 on the foundations of an older post mill (dating from 1812). It has been a defining feature of Laer's townscape ever since.
