The palace was built in 1777 for the Viscount François-Joseph-Théodore Desandrouin after a design by Giraud Sannier. After the French Revolution it came into use for the High Command of the Grande Armée and Napoleon Bonaparte stayed here in 1803, 1810 and 1811. Tsar Alexander I also stayed here.
In 1998, an institute of the Université du Littoral-Côte-d'Opale moved into the building. Napoleon's study and bedroom have been restored to their original state. The building is in classicist style, has a two-storey facade with a pediment. The building is listed as a monument historique.
