    Cykling

The gravel roadway up to the pass may be a little more challenging than your average bike tour, but it should be manageable on most bikes as long as you don't have skinny road tires, and the views into The Flat Tops Wilderness are absolutely stunning. There's an even better viewpoint on a side trail to the east-southeast of the actual pass.

The long, downhill coast on your way back is pretty great, too — just make sure you limit your speed enough to maintain control of the bike.

This is when the aspens and other deciduous trees in the Flat Tops region display their peak fall foliage.

Is Dunckley Pass suitable for winter activities?

Yes, Dunckley Pass transforms into a popular winter destination once the road closes and is no longer plowed. It becomes an extensive trail system ideal for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and dog sledding. Be prepared for remote conditions as services are limited.

What kind of vehicles are recommended for traversing Dunckley Pass, especially during shoulder seasons?

Rio Blanco County Road 8, which crosses the pass, is a gravel road.
