The strenuous ascent to Gaviota Peak (2,458 or 2,485 feet) is highly popular, rewarding hikers with panoramic views of the coastline, the Channel Islands, and the Lompoc Valley. Another favorite is the trail leading to the unique Gaviota Wind Caves, fascinating sandstone formations sculpted by the wind. Dogs are typically permitted in developed areas like campgrounds, picnic areas, and on paved roads, but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet.
