In 1985, Nieuwlande collectively received the Israeli Righteous Among the Nations (Yad Vashem award) award for the massive assistance to Jewish people in hiding during the war, which is usually only intended for individuals. Nieuwlande is one of only two villages in the world to have received this award, the other being the French village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon.

In 1985, Nieuwlande received the Righteous Among the Nations award. It is one of only two villages in the world that collectively received for all inhabitants of the village for saving Jews during World War II, the other being the French Le Chambon-sur-Lignon.
