The city originated in 1794 from the site of Fort Defiance, built by General "Mad" Anthony Wayne during the Northwest Indian War. The city of 17,000 people sits the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers and is a great place to ride through along the rural roads surrounding Defiance.
