Yokogawa Station is a major secondary transportation hub in Hiroshima, second only to the main Hiroshima Station. It is an interchange for the JR Sanyo Main Line and JR Kabe Line, and the terminus for the Hiroden (Hiroshima Electric Railway) streetcar Yokogawa Line. It is located in Nishi-ku, in the northwest of Hiroshima City center, serving as a gateway to the surrounding residential and northern areas. The area around Yokogawa Station was historically important as the start of the Unseki Highway and a major port for goods traffic.
