The monument is located near the center of Sopron in Paprét, on the site of the former Jewish ghetto.
The monument, erected in 2004, pays tribute to the memory of the almost two thousand Jews who were deported from Sopron, in the immediate vicinity of the Orthodox synagogue designed by János Schiller in 1891. The monument symbolizes the undressing area in front of the door with a special atmosphere the gas chambers, whose creator is sculptor and medalist László Kutas.
