"Châteauroux [ʃato'ru] on the Indre is a city in the center of France, capital of the department of Indre.
It is with 44,088 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016) to Bourges, the second largest city in the countryside Berry. In Châteauroux was also from 1951 to 1967, the NATO headquarters.

Chateauroux is a medieval town which takes its name from a nobleman, Raoul le Large, who had a castle built on the banks of the Indre. Over the centuries, the name changed from Château Raoul to Chateauroux.
This historic town is also home to a Cluniac abbey founded in 917, the surroundings of which can be visited by canoe.

Great old town with many churches, castles and museums worth seeing. Châteauroux is surrounded by the Indre, on whose banks there are beautiful parks in several places.
