The Maledei is the ruins of a tower hill castle (motte) northwest of the village of Schlicht. The castle, which was built in the 13th century for defensive purposes with a moat on the west, north and east sides, had a multi-story residential tower made of field stone masonry.

The word “Maledei” sounds quite romantic. And if you consider that the old German verb “maledeien” means “to curse, to curse”, the name fits this piece of earth quite well. Because things were enchanted here for quite a while.
