From a document of 1334 we learn that the church of Chiarano was a pieve. On 3 January 1513, Pope Leo X entrusted the care of souls to the regular canons of Sant'Agostino of Venice. In the 16th century the church was rebuilt and in 1773 the parish returned to the clergy of the diocese of Ceneda. The parish church was consecrated in 1826 by the bishop of Ceneda Giacomo Monico; the facade of the building was rebuilt in 1910 in neo-Romanesque style, while the lateral naves were built in 1925.
