The Tees barrage is a barrage and road bridge across the River Tees. It's designed to manage the river level, preventing tidal surges from flooding the local area. It was opened in 1995.
The river it controls is now available as a watersports venue due to the controlled flow rate of the river. There are kayak, dragonboat and rowing courses upstream.
