The tower is Romanesque, from the 11th-12th century. This tower may have been part of a pre-Romanesque hall church, but from the 14th-15th century it was replaced by a Gothic church. In 1788 a classicist church was built in its place, preserving the Gothic choir.
In the first half of the 13th century, the patronage and tithing rights of the parish came into the hands of the Abbey of Herkenrode and it was an abbess of this abbey, Augustina van Hamme, who took the initiative to build the classicist church.

Vandring

The parish of Hoepertingen is an old foundation of the Saint-Vaast church of Arras, but was given as guardian by the Count of Loon to his abbey of Herkenrode.

Of the Romanesque phase, only the western tower in flint remains and of the Gothic phase part of the choir with later bricked-up pointed arch windows. Since 1788, the coat of arms of Abbess Augustina of Hamme has adorned the entrance door of the late-classical nave, which she had built for pastor Bernard Lievin de Trois-Marie. This renovation also included side aisles and a sacristy.
