Mining of coal in the Raša pit, one of the pits of the Raša coal basin, started in 1928. In Krapan, a settlement near Raša, mining started as early as 1626, but it was not until the time of Mussolini's fascism that coal mining began real expansion in the Raša mine. More than 10,000 workers were employed in the Raša mine, and the mine was spread over 30 floors with almost 400 km of branched transport corridors. The Raša mine was closed in 1966, mainly due to the exhaustion of the site and the ever-present crisis.
