The Hotel Haus Singer in Wittenberge is closely linked to the city's significant industrial history as a center of sewing machine production. Its name refers to the Singer Manufacturing Company, which established a large sewing machine factory in Wittenberge at the beginning of the 20th century, thus shaping the city's economic development in a lasting way. Later, production continued under the brand name Veritas at the VEB Nähmaschinenwerk Wittenberge (Wittenberge Sewing Machine Factory), resulting in the production of millions of sewing machines and making Wittenberge famous far beyond the region.
