From the train station in Ohiya (where you can disembark from the Ella Odyssey train) up to the Horton Plains National Park, a 3 mile (5 km) climb awaits. With plenty of switchbacks to start, the gradient fluctuates between a manageable alpine-like climb between the trees to some more testing steep ramps and corners.
The further up you go, the more the thick canopy begins to part and you're graced with some marvellous views over the nearby mountains.
