Vandring
The Munneswaram Hindu temple, located east of Chilaw, was destroyed by the Portuguese in 1578 and rebuilt in 1753. It is possibly the oldest Hindu temple in the country. Dedicated to the god Shiva, the temple is an important pilgrimage site, especially popular in September during the temple festival. According to tradition, it was built by the hero Rama.
