Wenckheim Castle Gerla is a historically significant Romantic-Baroque mansion, crafted by Miklós Ybl and built for the Wenckheim family. Despite its architectural beauty and original chapel restoration, much of it stands in a dilapidated, privately owned state. Grassroots preservation efforts and potential adaptive reuse provide hope, but major funding and commitment will be essential to bring it back to life.
It can be reached via several hiking trails from both Békéscsaba and Gyula, and there is also a well-developed cycling path leading here.
