The small watermill was first mentioned at the ceremonial inauguration of Wanzka Monastery in 1290, making it one of the oldest mills around Neustrelitz. As part of the ceremony, the sovereign, Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg, issued a charter of foundation. "The monastery was dedicated to the village of Wanzka, with 25 hectares of land in Ballwitz, the villages of Blankensee, Zachow, Krickow, along with the mill and Mechow." The mill "along with Krickow" referred to the mill later known as the Nonnenmühle.
